Confirm the song and original lyric
Start with original lyrics on Mac, iPhone or iPad. Once the song version and lyric match look right, decide whether you need translation or an explanation.
Choose a translation source
The lyric translation menu can use an available community translation or system translation. You can also choose a configured AI translation. System translation needs the supported OS and language pack; AI needs a compatible endpoint, model and key that you provide.
Ask about the current line
On the Mac lyric page, choose “What does this line mean?” to ask for a two- or three-sentence plain-language explanation of the current line and its imagery, with a cultural note when useful. Explanations are cached per line.
When to translate and when to explain
Translation is useful for quickly checking the literal meaning of a line or following the meaning of a whole song. Line explanations are useful for metaphors, cultural references or uncertain tone when you want context for a particular moment.
Mac also offers Japanese and Korean romanization for sing-along use; this also requires an enabled, configured AI service. Saved moments and notes are currently available on Mac and stay on the device.
Common questions
Can I translate lyrics without an AI service?
Yes. Available community translation or system translation does not require a configured AI service. Original lyrics remain available when those sources are unavailable.
Does AI automatically explain every lyric?
No. Line explanation is an on-demand Mac feature. It does not rewrite every lyric automatically or replace the original text.
Where are AI line explanations available?
The current product description lists AI line explanations, saved moments and notes as Mac features. Mobile devices can display lyrics and translations, while system support determines the exact available behavior.
